There's Still Time to Schedule Your Yearly HVAC Inspection

Most HVAC units will last between 15 and 25 years with good maintenance. To help them last as long, experts recommend at least one HVAC inspection annually. The best time to schedule an inspection is during the spring because it's a less busy time of the year for HVAC professionals.

During an HVAC inspection, all parts of the HVAC system will be inspected to ensure they function as they should. The technician will inspect and clean all necessary components, including the condenser, fan motor, outdoor disconnect, and blades. If the ducts are too dirty, cleaning them may require another visit. The systems need to be cleaned because dirt impedes the HVAC's efficiency, causing it to work harder and increase the heating and cooling bill. The HVAC technician will also test the system and tune it up where necessary to improve performance and efficiency. Other parts to be inspected include coolant levels, pressure checks, the evaporator coil, and the condensate drain. They will also examine the electrical system for any irregularities – these include the wiring, capacitors, contacts, and relays. The whole process should take about an hour, after which the technician shares their recommendations with the homeowner.
