Fall Protection Systems: What to Know

Did you know that roofing and construction workers hold some of the most dangerous jobs in the United States? Unfortunately, it's easy for these workers, among others, to fall off roofs, ladders, and other high places. Sadly, many people end up injured by the fall, and in some cases, they may even die. Fortunately, a modern fall protection system can save lives and mitigate risks.

There are two main types of fall protection systems. Some systems are called fall arrest and they will basically catch workers if they fall.

So, if a roofer or construction worker is walking along a roof and falls off, the fall arrest system will stop their fall, thus allowing for them to be lowered and rescued.

A roof restraint system works a bit differently. If someone is using a roof restraint system properly, it'll prevent them from ever falling over the edge in the first place. The worker might reach the edge of a roof, or she or he might be stopped just a bit short. Even if the person tries to step off of the ledge, the restraint system would prevent them from doing so.

So which fall protection system is best? Ultimately, that depends on the specific job site.
